OBITUARY Singer Answers Fans' Questions
November 16, 2004OBITUARY singer John Tardy recently took part in an "Ask the Artist" question-and-answer sessions with the group's fans via the Roadrunner Records web site. Several excerpts from the session follow:
Q: This is a two-part question. When will OBITUARY be releasing their next album and what in your opinion is the best album you guys have released? Why did you choose that one?
John Tardy: "We should be in the studio in January and not exactly sure when a release date would be but lets say early to mid next year. All of our albums have special meanings for different reasons. Right now I would say I probably listen to the live record, 'Dead', more than the others because a) it is live b) it spans all of our records."
Q: Well you guys are the band that got me into death metal, so I can't wait to see you live. I missed a chance to see you here in Tampa at the metal fest you played at, so I'm wondering when you're going to do a U.S. tour.
John Tardy: "Most of our touring will be done after the new record is released. If you live in Tampa or close by we will probably set up a show or two to keep us in shape and keep the blood flowing."
Q: What is your opinion on the current death metal scene? (Dennis)
John Tardy: "During our time off I really didn't listen to very much new death metal. I was stuck with all the classics: HELLHAMMER, SLAYER, VENOM etc. I am just now starting to get back into the scene and hope to come across some bands with some originality! I think a few years back there started to be too many bands that sounded the same."
